  1. 2007's Best Lists of the Best Albums of 2007

    December 25, 2007

You’ll find plenty of bloggers giving you their respective lists of the best albums of 2007. Only Work + Play gives you the best of those lists.

The four lists linked below were deemed the best according to the following criteria:

    1) They took an interesting point of view on the music they reviewed.
    2) They were found by me either during my regular web reading or in the course of the most cursory of web searches.

    Sound fair? Perfect.

So, without further ado, Work + Play presents the Best Lists of The Best Albums of 2007:

    Pitchfork

This year’s Top 50 included few surprises for regular Pitchfork readers, and plenty for those who don’t take their cues from the Chicago-based tastemakers. Pitchfork deserves some credit for including, at #39, the White Stripes, who long ago might’ve been dismissed in a ‘fork review that roiled with thinly veiled distaste for the band’s more mainstream following.

    largehearted boy

The boy’s heart is apparently large enough for only 12 albums, so I’ll suggest his list to the reader who wants more than a Top 10, but would still like to digest the Best of 2007 in a single sitting. largehearted boy’s 2007 list, his sixth annual end-of-year accounting, is a sound one, and it includes free and legal mp3s and videos, facilitating on-the-spot vetting of his choices. I appreciate the boy’s legwork, and admire the confidence behind it.

    Paul Shirley

You might not have expected to see espn.com blogger Paul Shirley make this list. But Shirley, the former NBA journeyman and author of the book Can I Keep My Jersey?, came correct with his own Top 10. Teaser: Shirley’s #1 album of 2007 is also the favorite of Work + Play blogger Jeff Cenna.

    The Morning News

Andrew Womack’s taste is like a broad, clean surface: you can always count on it. Andrew’s music lists, at least one of which I’ve mentioned in these columns before, have enough of what I know to make me comfortable and enough what I don’t to excite me. Like largehearted boy, Andrew gives you an opportunity to sample the output of the artists he touts. Count on finding something you like in The Morning News Top 10.
