  1. Be the first to know

    August 21, 2008

The Obama campaign has come up with a brilliant way to collect cell phone numbers. Leading up to the Democratic National Convention that begins next week, all of the talk is about who the senator will select as his running mate, and when he will announce it. So, if you want to be the first to know, just give the Obama campaign your cell phone number and you’ll receive a text message with his VP selection -before it is released to the media.

As any campaign worker will tell you, this is a potential goldmine. Yes, emails are nice, but the holy grail of politics is still good old phone numbers. You might not like email, you might never check your email, or you might not even know how to use email, but I bet you have a cell phone. It is still the most effective way to reach people, and whether you’re a politician or a salesperson (insert joke here), your success hinges on reaching the people. So kudos to the Obama campaign, its database is sure to become much more robust between now and his VP announcement.

And if you haven’t done so already, and want to receive the text message from Senator Obama, just follow this link and give him your cell phone number!
