  1. Ding-Dang-Dog!

    October 18, 2007

At precisely 4:45 this past Saturday, I was walking out of the Field Museum with family, when my fantastic sense of smell picked up the overwhelming aroma of pickle relish and mustard. Being a vegetarian, I knew this meant I was about to miss out on yet another “Chicago hot dog” experience. I started telling my sister-in-law tales of a trip to Toronto where I dined nearly exclusively on vegetarian hot dogs for three days. The hot dog vendors there have foot-long vegetarian dogs at nearly EVERY CORNER! This is possibly the best thing Canada has to offer, besides of course Rick Moranis.

Here in Chicago, there is a very short list of options.

Hot Doug’s is awesome, as long as you don’t mind standing in line for up to an hour.
Huey’s Hotdogs in Andersonville not only has veggie friendly dogs, they also have meat-deficient burgers and un-meatified chili!

Now, all of a sudden I know a third place in Chicago with meatless weenies. If you can believe it, it’s the tiny hot dog stand on the side of the Field Museum…that closes at precisely 4:44. Ding-Dangit!
