I have recently developed a mild obsession with buying a robot vacuum cleaner; I mean what could be more useful? When starting the quest for my “Rosie”, I ran into a product only the lyrics of Styx could fully capture:
And thank you very much, Mr. Roboto
For helping me escape just when I needed to
Thank you-thank you, thank you
It seems that the trials and tribulations of being a working parent have spawned an entire industry of products, among them is the Roomba’s big brother (literally) named ConnectR. Essentially this is a robot that allows you to login from any computer and navigate your home via robot. This includes abilities to see and speak to family members (or the household pet.)
According to ConnectR’s Website, they offer the following assistance for today’s nuclear family:
I joked at the start of this post that I am on a quest for my “Rosie”, but really how far are we from a Jetson’s lifestyle. Essentially ConnectR could be the first version towards Rosie-like bots that care for our families, cook our meals and keep our houses clean.
I am no where near ready for a ConnectR, and I think our cats would have serious mental issues after encountering one, but I haven’t given up my dream, I just want a robot to mop my floor. (See Scooba)
Again I reference Styx:
Thank you very much, Mr. Roboto
For doing the jobs that nobody wants to

I’d like to get one of these to keep an eye on my dog during the day. I’m pretty sure she walks around on her hind legs and drinks coffee when I’m not around.
