If you don’t have the Flash player installed, you can still see most things on the site.
But you’re just going to miss seeing the really good stuff.
This one goes out to all those oppressed workers on IT lockdown. Maybe you don’t care that you can’t use Firefox for “security reasons”, but if you do, there is a solution. Portable Firefox is designed to be run from a removable drive, usb thumb drive, or even a CD. And if you just can’t keep away from all the goodness that Flash offers (who could really), Lifehacker has a tip on how to get Flash to run in Firefox portable that is easy and quick.
There a quite a few other useful portable applications available too. I actually carry Filezilla portable on my key chain. I have all my FTP settings saved so I can easily jump on any computer that has a USB port and have access to any site that I am responsible for. It actually came in handy not too long ago when my EVDO card was failing and I needed to post a file. Luckily, I was on a university campus so I just popped into the computer lab, fired up Filezilla, and made the update.
You may not have to let the IT man control what applications you use as much as you think. Poke around on portableapps.com. You might be surprised to find that you can carry one of your favorite applications with you wherever you roam.
