But you’re just going to miss seeing the really good stuff.
Flatstock 14 corresponded with the Pitchfork Music Festival, held July 13th through the 15th in Chicago’s Union Park. Though my walls already have all the Jay Ryan and Aesthetic Apparatus posters they can handle, I took a couple of long wanders through the grounds to have a look at the latest rock-poster art. My feet—and my eyes—were richly rewarded.
Buffalo’s promoters and concertgoers are in good hands with Hero Design Studio. My friends bought this poster for their young son’s bedroom.
In the next tent north, strawberryluna displayed some of the festival’s best work. I experienced the vicarious thrill of buying this Stereolab poster through my friend Phil, who thought it would look good next to this one on his living-room wall. When I mentioned to strawberryluna’s prorietor, Allison, how much I liked the Streolab design, she recounted how nervous she’d been when creating the piece. “I’m a huge Stereolab fan,” she said. I assured her she’d done right by the band with her work, and I meant what I said.
I took too many cards and saw too many posters to cover Flatstock 14 in one post. Look for another post in the next week or so.
