On the last day of the South by Southwest Interactive Conference fellow blogger Jeff Cenna and I took our empty schwag bags and set out on the ultimate tech adventure, the SXSW conference floor. I was so impressed by the vibrant & out of the box thinking that we encountered and the products we saw. I have chosen just two of my favorites to talk about here.

BitStrips – Comic Creation 2.0

I was intrigued by the BitStrips booth first because they were handing out freshly made comics highlighting the Zuckerberg Fiasco, but stayed because they agreed to make a cartoon likeness of me. I was impressed with the simple, bare bones interface that they have produced to make comic strip creation as simple as reading a comic. This is a great e-gift idea, make a comic of an inside joke you share with a friend or perhaps make a comic for your team detailing a particularly grueling meeting. Overall BitStrips gets my guilty pleasure site award.

Blurb – Bookmaking for Noobs

Blurb is an incredible service that allows beginners to enjoy the pleasure of designing books about — well, whatever they want. There is simple bookmaking software to download, and unlike competitive products like iPhoto, this software will allow fully custom artwork to be imported from your design program of choice. I can see so many potential uses for this service both professionally or personally. They also sport a great blog about the kinds of projects they see coming in and potential new and different applications for the service. Finally, here is the community piece, you can sell your finished book for profit right in the blurb bookstore. So writers, fret no longer about finding a publisher, and Bloggers — check out the blog to book feature that makes your existing blog entries into beautiful print ready pages in a matter of moments. I can’t say enough good things about Blurb!
