  1. Get thee to a garden center

I used to have a roommate who opted out of cleaning the kitchen because he was “freaked out” by household cleaners. That was his excuse, anyway. Personally, I’m not so leery—although sometimes I think about him when I’m kneeling on my linoleum floor, my forearms covered to the elbows in eerily green-gray Comet residue.

I also thought about him when I saw GOOD Magazine’s very cool Plants for Your Health Chart. The chart features three common household toxins, their sources, and the everyday houseplants that mollify their effects. It also includes handy photos of each plant specie, so you know what to look for at your favorite garden store.

So, the next time I get down Stepford-wife-style on my kitchen floors, I’ll be sure to do so in a profusion of chrysanthemums.

That’s one of the more helpful posts I’ve seen on Work + Play. Very cool info.

Agreed. And I love that the plant that fights off tobacco smoke is English Ivy. That fits.
