  1. Inexperienced Voters, the internet is here to help

    January 9, 2008

With 2008 starting out with the upcoming presidential election on the brain, I am finding it very interesting how much the internet is playing a part in the process this time around.

There were of course helpful articles and candidate websites to get the word out about important topics and issues in the 2004 election, but nothing like the sites we are seeing in 2008.

These sites are all over the spectrum, from large aggregation type sites that don’t take a particular position, but display the facts like Yahoo’s Political Dashboard or NPR’s Election 2008 Coverage.

To sites allowing voters to befriend their favorite candidate and take their own positions on important issues like Facebook’s US Politics Application

We now officially have less excuse to miss the debates based on schedule conflicts, since YouTube has been so kind as to keep each candidates appearances easy to find and watch in your spare time. They even allow you to filter video content by issue. Check out You Tube’s You Choose 2008.

And then, there are candidates who are changing the way voters show their support. Ron Paul, republican candidate and GQ’s Dark Horse of the Year, has successfully raised over 11 million dollars online. If that isn’t shocking enough, the coolest part is that all the organization of these “Money Bombs“ was done completely online and for the most part not organized by the official Paul campaign.

So now that you have all this useful information right at your virtual fingertips…go out there, explore, question and decide for yourself.
