Since the release of the iPhone this summer, users have been raving about the super-usable features of the iPhone interface. With the first winter of iPhone upon us, I officially have my first complaint: Multi touch technology doesn’t allow contact to be made with the iPhone through gloves. Realizing this fact made me very sad, but I am not without options.
Finger less gloves: A popular winter option that allows the mitten part of the glove to be removed at any time without removing the whole glove.
Pad-less gloves: A glove in which the index finger has no fabric (or special fabric) on just the finger pad, allowing full range of iPhone features. According to my browsing, this doesn’t seem to be a marketed solution. That said, with this new issue potentially effecting millions of iPhone users, someone could stand to make a lot of profit off this gem. There is also of course DIY potential with this option. (Hint: use clear nail polish to stop the hole cut from expanding)
Just when you thought it was just another potential scenario for frost bite, the medical professionals weigh in:
“Experts have warned that the iPhone could be responsible for causing repetitive strain injury if used for long periods in cold weather.
They said that muscles get strained from the unusual finger movements needed to search its menus or text and cold worsens the situation.”
And leave it to iPhone users to come up with the next best thing: via gizmodo
“You’ll need to find an element that will be able to transfer the electrostatic from your body to the touchscreen on the iPhone. I was taking batting practice and couldn’t answer my phone with my batting gloves on. I had to resort to using my tongue on the slider.”
Or my personal favorite:
“Or you can always Eskimo-Kiss the iPhone and just use your regular gloves.”
So, bundle up that index finger and keep those text messages short and sweet.
