But you’re just going to miss seeing the really good stuff.
Be sure to tear yourself away from the television or off your bar stool and look towards the skyline the night of Saturday, March 29. Chicago has added itself to the list of global cities signed on for Earth Hour, agreeing to douse internal and external lights on all city buildings for one hour. Earth Hour was first held last year in Sydney, and while the symbolic event didn’t intend to directly impact energy usage then and there, it managed to cut the city’s energy consumption by 10% during that hour.
The city’s inviting all Chicagoans to switch off and unplug, and it’s going to be interesting to see how many of the Loop’s skyscrapers follow suit. It may also be intriguing to see what Chicago’s nightlife does with a Saturday-night, city-wide, lights-out.
