I love Mexican Coke. Let me re-phrase…the Coca-cola in Mexico is better than in the US. I know you’ve heard before how some things taste different in another country. The Guinness in Ireland is better for example not just because of the scenery. I assumed that it had to be something about the taps. The formula for these wonderful brown liquids would be maintained and guarded like the true precious recipes that they are, right?
Well not so. They are constantly tweaking elements. We all remember New Coke. That change came with new branding and commercials. It was very obvious. Less obvious was the switch in the 80s to high fructose corn syrup. Do HFCS cause diabetes and obesity? I can’t say. But no matter what they don’t taste the same as the Coke made with cane sugar. I just returned from a vacation in Mexico and I wished I could have brought some of the Coke home with me. It’s like going back in time. Maybe not all of you can detect the difference. I was raised on Coke from the time I could hold my head up, so I can tell. If you think you could tell the difference head over to your local Mexican grocery store. You’ll likely find some glass bottles imported from Mexico. Or go online. Tell yourself you are avoiding HFCS for your health.

Basically what you’re telling us is that you’re a Coke addict.
The same thing is true with Fanta Orange; European versions are much better. I’ve written to CocaCola directly and they’ve said it’s based on regional “tastes” and laws, so many formulas will be different. I don’t understand why we end up with the crap versions!
