Using lasers in a music video was always considered a showy touch of visual excitement that could add extra punch as the chorus kicked into full gear. Many outdoor concerts use this effect with appropriate restraint even today.
So leave it to Radiohead to take the cliche one geeky step further, making a video using lasers instead of cameras. The end result is a cool experiment in data visualization. (At this point I enjoy the social and artistic experiments far more than the music on this album.)
