  1. Now Zipping and Flexing

    November 29, 2007

zipcars parking signAbout a month ago, Zipcar and Flexcar agreed to ban together in order to better solidify this brave new world of car sharing. According to the Zipcar site, this merger means more cars in more cities. It also means increased insurance coverage for members — $300,000 per accident.

I’ve been a Zipcar member for about 6 weeks now. My experience from start to finish with Zipcar has been great, so I’m glad that the Zipcar brand will be the one moving forward from the merger. I’ve only had the need to use Zipcar once, but the idea of ride sharing, the execution of that idea, and the customer experience was so good that I’m really itching for an excuse to use it again.

Even though I’m a Zipcar loyalist, I hope that the folks behind the Flexcar website update the Zipcar site. Once you’re a member the Zipcar site is pretty slick, but I think that Flexcar does a much better job marketing themselves and presenting information to non-members. I care about that because more new customers means that there’s a better chance that Zipcar will be around for a while. I don’t want Zipcar to go the way of another one of my favorite web-enabled services — Webvan.
