But you’re just going to miss seeing the really good stuff.
Chicago poster artist Jay Ryan has been mentioned often in the hallowed columns of Work + Play. Now, our neighbors at Ispace have brought the best of Jay’s new work to their gallery space on Franklin Street, just fifty steps from the closerlook front door at 212 W. Superior.
The show, entitled “Jay Ryan: Animals and Objects In and Out of Water” and running through January 12th, 2008, features everything from Ryan’s recent gig posters to his book covers and Flatstock commemorations. The presentation—posters mounted to white walls with a single pin in each corner—works. It fits the DIY ethic shared by Ryan and many of the outfits he promotes, and focuses the eye on the art. Quite frankly, the richness of color and image on those walls is a little overwhelming. Take care to give each piece its due or you’ll miss something worth seeing.
Quickly, in other Jay Ryan news, Victoria Holman of the Manchester Evening News’ Arts and Minds (aside—great phonetic pun, Mancunians) blog reported last Thursday that Ryan would be producing new work, including a limited-edition program, for the UK tour of The Blue Planet Live! event.
