The von Trapp Singers in Rwanda?
April 1, 2008I thought the last concert the von Trapp Singers gave was in Salzburg, Austria before the captain, Julie Andrews, and their family hiked up their knickers, slipped through the convent, and crossed the Alps on foot to escape the Nazis. So imagine my surprise when they showed up and gave an impromptu concert in the lobby of the Serena Hotel here in Kigali!
In turns out that they are the grandchildren of Kurt (the incorrigible one). There are three sisters and one brother, but two of them got hung up in Nairobi. Nevertheless, Sophia and Melanie launched out with an a capella version of Edelweiss that was incredibly sweet. Who knew the von Trapps were in Rwanda? Maybe this is where Elvis is hiding, too…
