But you’re just going to miss seeing the really good stuff.
Have you really put any thought into what a name means? Does it reflect the qualities that your parents wanted to instill in you? The name of a loved one who affected their life in a way that they passed that name along in honor? Religious references? Or maybe just an optimistic view of the world ahead of you? Well the good people at Greenpeace are wondering the same that is why right now for a limited time you have the opportunity to vote on the name of an endangered humpback whale – a hope for the future if you will.
11,000 entries were received – thirty are left… Names such as Amal, which is Arabic for “Hope” or Malaya, which in Filipino means “Free”, or Mister Splashy Pants, which in English means “One whose pants are splashy“… yes that’s right… Mister Splashy Pants.
In cased you missed it (and I know you didn’t), Mister Splashy Pants in actually one of the names that is being suggested for this majestic sea creature. The best part of is that Mister Splashy Pants has actually taken the lead in the polls – 72%, the closest follower 3%. Now what does that mean? Not much, only that there will be a whale swimming somewhere out there with the funniest name I have ever seen assigned to an aquatic creature – that Sponge Bob cat holds no water to this one. The rave behind MSP has been so big that t-shirts have been made, bumper stickers printed and reddit.com has even changed their logo for the time being. Maybe MSP is making being an environmentalist cool? Maybe MSP will bring a whole new demographic to the Green side of life. Or just maybe we’ll all have a good chuckle…
