But you’re just going to miss seeing the really good stuff.
Berkshire Hathaway’s website may be the best example that I’ve encountered of an elite company with an objectionable, bargain-basement site.
The phenomenal success, sage wisdom and genuinely inspiring philanthropy of Berkshire Chairman and CEO/‘Oracle of Omaha’ Warren Buffett have been well-documented (as they should be). His company’s online marketing shortcomings…not so much.
It’s safe to say that Berkshire Hathaway’s website would be considered spartan and generic compared to those built over a decade ago, and it features personal pitches for GEICO and Borsheim’s Jewelers (both in Berkshire’s portfolio) from Mr. Buffett that are hard to reconcile with his stature and character.
What to think?
If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it, but if you’re ever interested in spiffing things up a bit, you know where to reach me, Mr. Buffett.
